Abstract

This study explores the theological and pedagogical significance of the Christian Religious Education (PAK) teacher’s role as a counselor in addressing students’ mental health challenges within a formal educational setting. Employing a qualitative theological approach, this research integrates theological reflection and educational praxis to analyze how the pastoral presence of PAK teachers contributes to students’ emotional and spiritual well-being. Data were gathered through literature review and field observation in SMA Negeri 2 Bitung, focusing on the intersection between faith formation, mental resilience, and Christian pedagogy. The findings demonstrate that PAK teachers function as agents of spiritual formation who embody Christ’s compassion through listening, empathy, and prayer. Their counseling role transcends academic instruction, shaping a holistic learning environment rooted in grace and restoration. Theologically, this study reveals that pastoral counseling in education reflects the incarnational nature of God’s mission, while pedagogically it emphasizes the integration of faith and care as foundational to Christian education. This research contributes to the ongoing discourse on practical theology by affirming that educational ministry is both a cognitive and spiritual vocation that nurtures the whole person toward maturity in Christ.
